The Detroit Tradesmen Rugby Football Club Youth Rugby Development
Program started in 1998 in order to promote and facilitate the development of high school rugby
programs in Southeast Michigan.
The Youth Rugby Development Program provides a unique experience for high school-aged
students. As most Tradesmen-developed clubs are community or area-based students in the
community can participate in a club sport, regardless of the high school affiliation. This
promotes interaction by students from very diverse social and economic backgrounds. The organization has successfully developed youth rugby clubs located in Birmingham, Dearborn, Howell, Lakeview, Livonia and Northville/Novi and Troy. It continues to provide six of these seven programs with financial, volunteer coaching staff and administrative organization support.
